An earthly hideaway

Summer noon, somewhere in Central Crete. You just drove by the sign that says “Agios Ioannis.” A few meters further on, you stop. You turn off the engine. You get out. To the left and right on the horizon, Talos and Ida, two mountain ranges standing proud and bathed in light, guardians of the Mylopotamos valley. As you’re standing, after a minute or two since you stopped, you realize that the engine’s sound was the last noise you heard. Here, where once King Zeus was raised before conquering Olympus, today’s the reign of peace and tranquility. Nassibe awaits you…

Nassibe’s estate is the perfect miniature of the Cretan countryside: olive trees, cypresses, flowers, herbs, and of course, vines.

Next to the vineyard that has been standing in the same spot for two centuries now – and every harvest provides us with the raw material for our excellent wine – is the 120 m² heated infinity pool. Let your eyes enjoy the uninterrupted view of the untamed Cretan landscape while swimming, sunbathing on the sun loungers, or relaxing on the permanently sunny deck. It is a scenery you can also enjoy in the shade, under the always welcoming gazebo – here, where you will enjoy your breakfast. But the estate also has its own magic in the evening; good wine from the cellar, local delicacies, a pizza cooked in the wood-fired oven or a delicious barbeque, and chatting with friends under the star-studded sky. Simplicity has its own greatness…

Terroire

Agios Ioannis is located in the valley of Mylopotamos, between Heraklion and Rethymno, at a strategic point that offers unlimited views in every direction. Byzantines, Venetians, and Ottomans not only chose it as the administrative center of the region but also left their own distinctive mark, mainly through the architecture – from the 13th-century church of Panagia to the stone-built houses

From “San Zuanne” in 1577 and “San Giovanni” in 1630 to St. John’s today, the village may have changed several names. Still, its character is intact: traditional houses, cobbled streets, and a generous natural landscape make up a setting of an actual time capsule. In one of its most characteristic spots, Nassibe has been located since the beginning of the 18th century.
